Our School Values and Ethos

We aim to provide your child with a broad, balanced, stimulating and challenging education. The emphasis will always be on the quality of teaching and learning within a caring, happy ethos and environment. We place great importance on the parent-child-school partnership. We expect that you will want to become fully involved in your child’s education. You will always be made to feel welcome whatever the nature of your visit.
As parents you will expect much of us, and rightly so. We will encourage your child to experience the joy of learning. We insist that all members of the school community show respect for each other and are able to take pride in their own achievements and those of others. We will always strive to celebrate those achievements.
We are proud of our school and feel confident that your child will respond to the dedication and expertise of its staff. Our aim is that your child will leave us as a more caring, more knowledgeable, more thinking and more self-assured young person.

British Values Statement
Keeping our children safe and ensuring that we prepare them for life in modern Britain could not be more important to us.
The Elliot Foundation states that; ‘Academies will promote community cohesion by respecting the traditions and celebrating the cultures of our children’s homes and heritages. At the same time we will ensure that all children are familiar with expectations in modern British society, particularly in relation to: democracy, the rule of the law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.’
‘Our academies will be able to demonstrate how their work with pupils is effective in embedding these values, which may include challenging pupils, staff or parents expressing contrary opinions.’
At Nene and Ramnoth School, we embed these values in the following ways:
Democracy is actively encouraged within the school. Children have the opportunity to have their voices heard and represented through our School Council. The election of School Council members is based on children’s recommendations and votes. Our school behaviour policy involves being awarded rewards for good behaviour, effort and working hard. Rewards are collected both individually and as a class. Class members then decide how they would like to be rewarded for their team effort.
The Rule of Law:
The importance of Laws, whether they be those that govern the class, the school, or the country, are consistently reinforced throughout regular school days, as well as when dealing with behaviour and through school assemblies. Children are taught the value and reasons behind our Nene and Ramnoth Respect code, with respect and following an agreed code of conduct being at the heart of all we do. Children are also taught to recognise the consequences when these rules are broken.
Within school, children are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school we educate and provide boundaries for young children to make choices safely, through our provision of a safe environment and empowering education. Children are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are advised how to exercise these safely, for example through our E-Safety and PSHE lessons. School Champions within school have the freedom of the school as a reward for being responsible and trustworthy members of the Federation. Our children are given the opportunity to make informed choices wherever possible.
Part of our school ethos and behaviour policy has revolved around Core Values such as ‘Respect’, and children have been part of discussions and assemblies related to what this means and how it is shown. Posters in all classes and around school promote respect and this is reiterated through our classroom and learning rules, as well as our behaviour policy.
Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs:
This is achieved through enhancing children’s understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society and by giving them opportunities to experience such diversity. Assemblies and discussions involving prejudices and prejudice-based bullying have been followed and supported by learning in RE and PSHE. Our Federation recognises its unique quality in having a high proportion of children for whom English is an additional language. This can be seen reflected on displays and notices around school. Members of different faiths or religions are encouraged to share their knowledge to enhance learning within classes and the school.
