Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS): Reception

EYFS at Nene & Ramnoth - the place where all children are supported by skilled staff, to fulfill their potential within our inspiring and nurturing environment.

We place every child at the heart of everything we do, recognising them as unique learners with individual strengths, interests and needs. Through a warm, inclusive and well-resourced environment, we nurture confidence, independence and resilience, ensuring children feel safe, valued and supported. A strong focus on communication and language, high-quality texts and systematic phonics gives children a flying start in reading, while meaningful opportunities to develop early mathematical understanding build secure foundations for future success.

We believe that warm, positive relationships and high-quality interactions are key to helping children grow in confidence, independence and resilience. By working closely in partnership with parents and carers, we ensure that every child feels safe, valued and supported as they begin to build the foundations for future success.

Communication and language development underpin all areas of learning in Reception. We want children to feel confident sharing their ideas, learning and emotions. A love of reading is nurtured from the very beginning through high-quality texts that create a language-rich curriculum, alongside a systematic approach to phonics to help children become enthusiastic and successful readers.

We also recognise the importance of strong early mathematical understanding as a foundation for later achievement. Children are given opportunities to develop number fluency, pattern recognition and spatial awareness through a balance of focused teaching, practical exploration and guided practice that reinforces key knowledge and skills.
